Living in today’s diet culture, it can be beyond challenging to determine the difference in eating disorders and disordered eating. In this presentation, we will explore the definitions of eating disorders, including the newest feeding and eating disorders described in the DSM-5 and discuss their current clinical presentation in our culture. We will look at diagnostic criteria as well as informal patterns of eating disorders and how they show up clinically. Then, we will dive deeply into assessment of eating disorders to help ensure these deadly diseases are detected and treated with highly specialized care.

Tara Arnold

Tara Arnold, PhD, LCSW, CEDS-S, RYT-200 is the Clinical Co-director and co-founder of WholeHeart Psychoptherapy in Atlanta. Tara has been in the field of mental health since 1997 and specializes in men and women with eating disorders and dual diagnosis. Dr Arnold was intensively trained in eating disorders and DBT and is a renowned educator and speaker on eating disorders and DBT. She is certified by IAEDP as a CEDS-S Certified eating disorder specialist supervisor. From these passions, WholeHeart provides groups for eating disorder recovery, body image and self- love as well as intuitive eating. She has developed national eating disorder programs and consults for eating disorder inclusivity in agencies. Dr. Arnold is a supervisor, consultant, and trainer in DBT and eating disorder issues as well as a presenter at state and national conferences. In addition, she is a speaker and presenter for corporations and media outlets.
